Minutes of previous meeting approved.

Agenda approved.

Principal’s Report:

Dr. Morado read a letter written by Ava Bivens relinquishing her position as student representative.  Student council has elected a new representative, Nicole Manual.  Site Council is supposed to have two representatives, the Student Body President and a student at large. Nicole was elected to complete the term for this year.   For next year the student at large will be elected at the same time student council elections are held.

Site Council Constitution.  There needs to be an 80% Site Council vote to amend the constitution.  This will be important as we go forward and vote on parent representatives.  Dr. Morado would to like to include future discussion about the constitution and possible amendments on the agenda.

There is a new secretary in the Operation’s Office, Joyce Hamilton.  Her previous position as attendance clerk is now posted as a job opening.

Dr. Morado is working on a proposal to go to one lunch period for next school year.  This would allow more time each class as well as for tutoring and club meetings.  The ditching rate during fifth period would also decline.  If this proposal were approved a 45 minute lunch would be needed.  Mrs. Palmo, director of Food Services, wrote back that she could not support this for 2004-05. Plans were formed to set up a meeting with Mrs. Palmo.  Approximately 4 – 5 minutes would be added to classes with the change to one lunch.  There is the possibility of targeting time to certain classes.

New school security officer- Bob Barry.  His specialty is investigations and interrogations.  His hours are 8 A.M.- 4:30 P.M.  He spends the majority of his time here.

Ed Gonzales will be back five hours a day.  Brought back through Drop-Out Prevention.  Ed will help with student supervision at lunch and after school.

AP classes are firmly set for the next school year.  Many schools in the district are questioning whether the AP exam should be mandatory or not.

Update on Policy 5200.  One letter from a parent was received; this parent felt that the school is going to lose a lot of students to charter schools.  Six classes will be part of the proposal at the governing board meeting on March 9.

Santa Rita Web Site.  Revisions must be done quickly for parents deciding which school their children will attend next year.  The web site is very outdated.  Ideas for a web design class have been introduced.  We will most likely be losing some FTE next year, making it more difficult to create a class.  Possibly take components of web design and do it through existing classes.

Student Aide data.  Aides who work for teachers were counted.  There are 18 teachers who do not have an aide.  Science teachers and auto seem to have 5 aides or an aide per period.  A student may only be an aide for one year.

Dress code violations.  Freshmen and sophomores have the highest number of students who were seen.  There were some students seen who were not recorded.  The severest punishment for dress code offenders is detention.  A lot of teachers have become relaxed on dress code policy.  Mrs. Lawson commented that if we are not going to wear uniforms, students should be required to wear IDs at all times.  A subcommittee on the dress codes was formed.  The committee is comprised of Mr. Gallagher, Mrs. Lawson, Mrs. Morse and Mr. Blackman.

Arena registration.  We will be going with Sabino’s method for the first year.  Still set for April 13-14.  Arena registration will be done in the cafeteria.

Agenda item for next meeting- consequences for dress code violators.

Mr. Gillaspie proposes drafting a policy on student aides.  Mrs. Morse, Mr. Gillaspie and Mr. Blackman formed a subcommittee on this issue to present a proposal at the next SC meeting for a Student Aide policy.

Student of the Quarter.  Mr. Bubany was impressed by the number of students and their parents who showed up for the ceremony.  He believes Student of the Quarter is very positive.  71 students got awards.  20 students were absent.

The Principal’s Report may be moved to the end of the meeting.  Mr. Bubany suggests putting the Principal’s Report in writing.

On March 16 the two subcommittees will report their results.

 Meeting adjourned at 8:07 A.M.
