Students may earn high school credit for Algebra and/or a Foreign Language in middle school.

Selection of a graduation plan and the monitoring of course choices are the responsibility of the student and parent.  Each graduation plan is appropriate for college provided the plan meets the particular college's entrance requirements.  Check your choice of plan with the admission requirements of the college of your choice.

ALL STUDENTS MUST ENROLL IN SIX (6) COURSES EACH FULL YEAR.

Board Policy 5200 strongly recommends that all students be enrolled in six classes.  Under special circumstances, seniors may take a minimum of four classes.  This must be approved by an administrator, and one of the following criteria must be met:

a.         The student demonstrates an economic need to work during part of the school day.

b.         The family circumstances require that the student attend to health needs or care for family members during part of the school day.

c.          It is determined that special block, accommodation or transitional programs are necessary or suitable for at risk students, potential dropouts or former dropouts.

d.         Upon receipt of a parental request for a student to drop one class period for any other specific purpose, the Principal, or designee, may, in his/her discretion, determine that the purpose is reasonable and justifiable.

To request to drop to five (5) classes, a student must obtain a petition from the Secretary in the Counseling Office.  The form must be signed by the student, parent, counselor, and teacher.  The petition, with all signatures will then be submitted to the Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Instruction.  Petitions must show that all parties have attempted alternatives to dropping a class.  No petition is automatically approved.
