Something “Wild” is Going on Here!

Sometimes we miss things that happen right “under our noses”.  Sometimes they are “wild” things… as in the Wild West.  And right here at Santa Rita, we have a teacher who is involved in things related to the West.

Mr. David Bertoglio, Spanish teacher here, has been writing and performing western music for ten years with his group, “The Due West Trio”.   The group is based here in Tucson and consists of lead singer Rena Randall (Mr. B’s wife’s cousin) and bass player Dave Gibson and Mr. Bertoglio on guitar, harmonica and vocals.

For many years, Mr. B. had attended family reunions and sung around the campfire with Rena who has a beautiful voice.  They finally got together and decided to form a group to sing western music.  Bertoglio’s friend Dave Gibson was also recruited.

Their style of music is not “country”.  It speaks of the American cowboy and his life on the range and ranch.  There are many traditional cowboy songs that have endured the years but today, a new generation of songwriters is penning songs of the West for a new generation of listeners.  For this reason, on each of the two CDs the Trio has released you will find both old songs and originals written by the Trio.  Mr. Bertoglio has written and recorded three on both CDs.

The group performs mostly at cowboy music and poetry festivals throughout the west.  They regularly play at local Tucson city events.  They have received very favorable reviews of both their recordings and performances and intend to stay together for many years to come and hopefully record and release a third CD in the near future.
